The weather forecast is set to change dramatically in the coming week, with a significant drop in temperatures and a high probability of snowfall. According to meteorologist Giorgos Tsatrakyllis, a harsh cold front is approaching, putting spring on hold. In a notable post, he writes, “A Ukrainian snowstorm for 90+ hours will drop temperatures by 20 degrees.” By Wednesday, temperatures in Athens are expected to plummet to 8 degrees Celsius, with snow predicted at higher altitudes as well as lower elevations. Specifically, Tsatrakyllis notes that after the warm temperatures and fog earlier this week, from Monday, especially during the four-day period from Tuesday to Friday (March 18-21), polar air masses traveling through Ukraine and Poland will affect Greece. Key features of this weather shift include: A rapid temperature drop (Wednesday being the coldest day) of up to 20 degrees. For instance, on Wednesday (March 19, 2025), the maximum temperature in Athens will be 8 degrees, Thessaloniki 7, Patras 10, and Heraklion 12 degrees Celsius. Snowfall in the mountains and even at lower altitudes in central and northern Greece (mainly Tuesday-Wednesday). Strong northerly winds are also expected.
