A severe weather episode is expected across much of Greece from today, Friday, 24 July 2026, through Saturday afternoon, 25 July 2026. This follows a brief heatwave and marks a rapid shift in atmospheric conditions. According to the latest Emergency Bulletin on Dangerous Weather Phenomena issued by the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY), the main features include heavy rain, thunderstorms, frequent lightning, and a risk of localized hail.

Orange alert is in effect for:
- Central Macedonia — including the regional units of Pieria, Imathia, Chalkidiki, and Thessaloniki — from late morning until late evening.
- Eastern Thessaly — covering Larissa and Magnesia — from noon until late night. A red alert applies specifically to coastal and marine areas in this region.
- The Sporades and Evia — particularly central and northern parts — from noon onward, under a red alert.
- Eastern Central Greece, including Attica, from the afternoon into the evening.
- Northeastern Aegean islands — Lemnos, Thasos, and Samothrace — starting late Friday night.

Red alerts remain active for:
- The Sporades until early Saturday morning.
- Evia — especially central and northern areas — until late morning.
Orange alerts continue for:
- Northeastern Aegean islands — Lemnos, Thasos, and Samothrace — until the early hours of Saturday morning.
- Magnesia — primarily eastern coastal and marine zones — until the early hours.
