Weather Alert: Storms, Hail, and 9-Beaufort Winds in 9 Regions Until Tonight

Nine regions of Greece remain on high alert due to severe weather — including thunderstorms, heavy rain, hail, and winds up to 9 Beaufort — affecting the country since early morning (01.02.2026). The National Meteorological Service (EMY) has issued an updated emergency bulletin warning of hazardous conditions through Sunday, with impacts extending into Monday in Crete, the Eastern Aegean, and the Dodecanese. Affected areas include Thessaly, Macedonia, the Eastern Aegean, Peloponnese, Ionian Islands, Crete, Central Greece, Evia, and the Dodecanese. Strong winds, localized snowfall in low-altitude northern and northeastern mountainous and semi-mountainous areas — including parts of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace — are expected. A red alert is in effect for Central Macedonia, Pieria, Imathia, Chalkidiki, and the Eastern Aegean. Flooded roads and fields have already been reported in Larissa, Kalamata, and Vary. Five regions are under RED CODE status: Peloponnese, Thessaly (including Sporades), Achaea and Elis (Western Greece), Pieria, Imathia and Chalkidiki (Central Macedonia), and North Aegean. Authorities urge extreme caution, especially in landslide-prone zones, and drivers must carry appropriate anti-skid equipment per Greek law.
