Weather Alert: Severe Storms and Strong Winds Tonight

Weather conditions will deteriorate from Wednesday evening with heavy rain, thunderstorms, and hail expected across several regions of Greece. The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) has issued an urgent weather deterioration bulletin with an orange alert. The change begins in northwestern Greece with thunderstorms and hail. Meanwhile, severe thunderstorms and exceptionally strong southerly winds—reaching Beaufort scale 8–9—are forecast for the Ionian Sea and the Eastern Aegean. According to EMY’s bulletin, intense rainfall and thunderstorms are expected: (a) in northern Ionian islands (Corfu, Diapontia Islands, Paxoi) and Epirus from Wednesday night until Thursday morning; (b) in remaining Ionian islands (Lefkada, Ithaca, Kefalonia, Zakynthos) and western Central Greece from early Thursday until afternoon; (c) in western and southern Peloponnese from Thursday morning until late evening; (d) in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace from Thursday morning until night; (e) in northern and eastern Aegean islands from Thursday noon until early Friday; (f) in the Dodecanese from Thursday afternoon until Friday morning.
