Weather Alert: Severe Storm Hits Attica Sunday Morning

Meteorologist Giorgos Tsatrakyllias warns of a serious weather deterioration starting Saturday night (31/1/2026) from western Greece, bringing strong thunderstorms, gale-force winds, snow, and hail. Temperatures will drop slightly. By Sunday (1/2/2026), the storm becomes nationwide—intensely wintry—with heavy snow in central and northern mountainous and semi-mountainous areas. Persistent rain and thunderstorms are expected across western Greece, Peloponnese, Sterea, Thessaly, Crete, Cyclades, and eastern Aegean. A powerful thunderstorm will strike Attica in the early hours of Sunday, accompanied by dangerous cyclonic winds along coastal and island regions. On Monday, the system will weaken and retreat to the eastern Aegean islands. According to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY), Saturday sees increasing clouds and isolated showers in the west, with thunderstorms intensifying late Saturday night—especially over the Ionian Sea, western Sterea, and western Peloponnese. Snow flurries are possible in central and northern mountains. Winds range from 4–6 Beaufort; temperatures remain mostly stable, ranging from 0°C to 20°C depending on region.
