Thunderstorms, heavy rain, and lightning are expected to hit Greece in the coming hours as a new wave of bad weather affects a large part of the country. The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) updated its emergency weather warning initially issued on Thursday. According to the updated emergency alert, the weather will start deteriorating from today, Friday (June 20, 2025), in Northern Greece and continue into tomorrow, Saturday, affecting southern regions with localized heavy rains and storms accompanied by strong winds temporarily. Specifically, strong showers and thunderstorms are expected: A. In Macedonia today, Friday, during midday and afternoon hours. B. In Chalkidiki, the Sporades Islands, and Magnesia starting early Saturday morning until early afternoon. C. In Central Greece (mainly western and central areas) and the Peloponnese on Saturday from late morning through the afternoon hours. The weather is expected to gradually improve by Saturday evening, while early forecasts for next week indicate temperatures rising back to high levels.
