The storm that hit the Cyclades on Monday afternoon (31/01/2025) has now moved to Chios, Samos, and Ikaria, prompting emergency services to activate the 112 alert system. Similar to the warnings issued in the Cyclades, residents of these Eastern Aegean islands are being warned about severe weather conditions expected until early Tuesday morning (01/04/2025). The message from the 112 service advises caution during travel and urges adherence to official instructions. The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) bulletin forecasts rain and occasional thunderstorms across most of the country, with intense activity anticipated in the Eastern Aegean islands (especially around Samos, Ikaria, and Chios), the Dodecanese, Thessaly, and the Sporades. Weather phenomena will remain strong in the Cyclades until early Tuesday morning, locally posing significant risks. Winds will blow from eastern directions at 3 to 5 Beaufort, shifting to southeasterly gusts of up to 6 to 7 Beaufort in the Eastern Aegean and reaching up to 8 Beaufort in the Dodecanese, with a gradual decrease by midday. Temperatures are expected to remain stable, ranging from 16°C to 18°C in most areas and 19°C to 20°C in southern island regions. Meteorologist Nikoleta Ziakopoulou of ERT highlighted the ongoing threat, stating that while the storm core is slowly moving northward, relieving some pressure on the Cyclades, other Aegean areas remain at risk. She noted that thunderstorms are approaching Chios and could bring severe conditions within hours. Additionally, heavy rains are expected not only in the northeastern Aegean but also in the Sporades, Thessaly, Evia, and parts of Eastern Sterea. Strong winds of up to 8-9 Beaufort are forecast for the Dodecanese, potentially causing disruptions in flights and communications.
