Vouliagmenis Avenue: “Bobbes” drinks “may lead to death” says Thomas about drunk students

At a time when students – who collapsed after eating in her club – try to recover from the adventure they experienced, the research and checks on the purity of drinks are in full progress. The exact causes that caused the blackouts at the Vouliagmeni Avenue nightclub on Saturday midnight are looking for authorities to find. In the microscope have entered the eyewitness deposits, but also the results of the tests from the bottles given to the laboratories. So what they expect to see is whether the children consumed excessive amounts of alcohol or the drinks they drank were “bobes”. According to the professor of analytical chemistry of the EKP, Nikos Thomaidis, the results should be obtained in order to determine whether the drinks consumed by minors were adulterated. In his experience, however, it seems that the intense illness of children is due to excessive alcohol consumption, because in case of fraud, as the professor says, the effects would be much more serious. “On the basis of the symptoms of the children we have known so far it seems likely that the children consumed large amounts of alcohol, because if their drinks were adulterated they would have a much more serious impact on their bodies. It is essential to analyse and produce the results so that we can talk, but on the basis of the data so far, the first case seems to apply,” the professor of the CRP tells newssit.gr. It then complements: “ If drinks were adulterated then they would contain methanol. Methanol starts with side effects on the nervous system, i.e. vertigo, dizziness, headaches. It then causes liver problems, but also visual nerves. They would have visual problems if their drink had methanol in it. In consumption of excessive amounts the person falls into a coma and death can occur. Methanol is quite toxic. These symptoms also occur after 12 hours. The effect of methanol gradually occurs, while the children from what I saw began not to feel well from the first moment in the store.” As Nikos Thomaides says, it is difficult for someone who has no experience in drinking alcohol to realize that his drink is adulterated. “The drinks consumed by children must be analysed, but also toxicology to children themselves to see if there is methanol in their blood. Unfortunately, they cannot recognize whether their drinks are adulterated. They are usually white drinks and they are not perceived unless they are an experienced consumer. Children usually drink their drink mixed with various juices and soft drinks, so they cannot see the difference in taste,” he concluded. Peace of Peivan
