A mother of two children has been sentenced to 60 days in jail in Volos after assaulting and injuring a police officer who was attempting to handcuff her partner on Saturday, April 5, 2025. The incident unfolded when the couple, under the influence of substances, were causing a disturbance in the city center on 28th October Street. When police intervened, the woman reportedly struck an officer in the eye, cutting his eyebrow and sending him to the hospital. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with the woman yelling at her partner about injuries she sustained. As the officer attempted to cuff the man, who was sprawled on the ground, the woman punched him in the face, causing the injury. During the arrest, a knife with a 6 cm blade was found in the man’s possession. Both individuals were brought before the Single-Member Misdemeanor Court, where they were convicted of resisting arrest, illegal weapon possession (the man), and violence against public officials, simple bodily harm, and insult (the woman). She will serve a 60-day prison sentence, while the man faces approximately €4,500 in fines due to his sentence being convertible. In their testimonies, both claimed they were mistreated by the police during the incident, with the man alleging he was beaten and denied medical attention for hours. The woman said she lost control upon seeing the officer pinning her partner down and striking him.
