Volos: Fire in Prison Cell at Chilia Detention Center

A major alarm was raised on Tuesday afternoon (01.07.2025) when a fire broke out in a prisoner’s cell inside the detention facility located in the Chilia neighborhood of Volos. Immediately, strong firefighting forces from the Volos Fire Department were dispatched to the scene, with support from local police, aiming to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other cells. According to thenewspaper.gr, some inmates reportedly suffered smoke inhalation, but no injuries were reported. Three fire trucks rushed to the location, and an ambulance from EKAB was also sent to the correctional facility as a precaution.
