In the German car crisis, the Federal Chancellor of Germany (Olaf Scholz) intervened. Government representative said yesterday (04.09. 24) in Berlin that Scholtz spoke with the administration and with the chairman of the Volkswagen Labour Council and members of its Supervisory Board. The chancellor knew the importance of VW as one of the largest companies in the car industry and was aware of the transformation challenge facing the entire industry. Scholz will monitor developments very closely. Solving the problems is up to the company and the federal government will not intervene. Federal Labour Minister Hubertus Heil told Berlin that cooperation with all parties involved should be possible in order to ensure that all facilities are secured and that redundancies are avoided in VW. That is why it is now time for industrial and social cooperation, he noted. ‘The responsibility must be assumed, including by the group. We will not judge it, nor will we only accompany it politically, but also provide support where necessary.” Heil again referred to the areas of research and development and labour market policy measures. He also referred to tax incentives for electronic cars as corporate cars that the cabinet has launched to stimulate demand.
