Russia has repeatedly assured Israel that Iran does not intend to acquire nuclear weapons, as stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin in an interview with SkyNews Arabia. The Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported this on Saturday (21.6.25). During the same interview, according to the Turkish news agency Anadolu, Putin reiterated that Russia opposes the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and the possibility of Iran acquiring such weapons. However, Russia supports Iran’s right to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, Putin added. He emphasized that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has found no evidence indicating that Tehran is seeking to build nuclear weapons. ‘The fatwa in Iran, which bans nuclear weapons, is very significant,’ Putin added. Furthermore, Putin stated that Russia is ready to assist Iran in developing its non-military nuclear program.
