Speaking about lasting peace two days after the first peace talks since 2022, Vladimir Putin emphasized today his desire to “eliminate” the “causes” of the conflict with Ukraine and “guarantee the security” of Russia. The initial peace negotiations with Kyiv did not lead to a ceasefire. Moscow’s goal “is to eliminate the causes that triggered this crisis, create conditions for lasting peace, and ensure the security of the Russian state,” stressed the Russian president in an interview on state television. Meanwhile, Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesperson, announced preparations are underway for a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and former U.S. President Donald Trump. According to Peskov, Trump stated on his social media platform Truth Social that he would hold discussions with Putin followed by talks with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy and several NATO member states.
