At least four people lost their lives when a 200-meter suspension bridge collapsed in the southwestern region of Ecuador, according to an announcement made on Friday (21.03.25) by the national risk management office. The accident occurred on Wednesday in the small village of Daule, located in the southwestern part of Ecuador, when the bridge connecting the two banks of the Magro River collapsed while four trucks, another vehicle, and two motorcycles were on it. The office reported through X that four unidentified bodies have been recovered, and search efforts continue for a fifth person. ‘Search and rescue teams are continuing their work,’ they added. Earlier reports mentioned three fatalities, two missing persons, and five injured individuals in stable condition. Initial findings suggest that the bridge experienced ‘excessive’ load, stated Marcela Aginaga, head of the local government in Guayas Province. The bridge collapsed during Ecuador’s rainy season, which has been particularly intense this year. Approximately 20 people have died, and 45 bridges have suffered damage due to floods and landslides caused by heavy rains, according to the risk management office.
