Victory Roskina: Tortured and Killed by Russian Forces – A Tragic End for a Brave Ukrainian Journalist

in

The Guardian has revealed harrowing details about the tragic end of 27-year-old Ukrainian journalist Victory Roskina, who was detained in Zaporizhzhia during the summer of 2023 and held captive in Russia. When her remains were returned to Ukraine on February 14 as part of an exchange, vital parts such as her brain, eyes, and larynx were missing, making it impossible to determine the exact cause of death. The coffin bore no indication of gender, marked only with ‘NM SPAS 757,’ meaning ‘unknown male’ in Russian, along with ‘severe damage to the coronary arteries.’ Roskina was held without charges or access to legal representation, with her sole contact with the outside world being a four-minute phone call to her parents. Survivors from Russian prisons and defectors have provided testimonies detailing her ordeal, including electric shocks and knife wounds. Despite these horrors, investigations into war crimes are underway to hold those responsible accountable. Roskina’s final months were marked by starvation and deteriorating health, culminating in her tragic demise.
