The Vianex Group inaugurated its new Research and Development (R&D) Center on Tuesday, 23 June, in the Patras Industrial Zone—a strategic investment worth €12.47 million aimed at strengthening Greece’s pharmaceutical research and innovation capacity and supporting the growth of the national pharmaceutical industry.
High-Level Attendance and National Significance
Government officials, regional authorities, and business leaders attended the ceremony in Patras, including Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis, Deputy Development Minister Lazaros Tsavdaridis, Deputy Culture Minister Iason Fotilas, Regional Governor of Western Greece Nektarios Farmakis, Mayor of Western Achaea Grigoris Alexopoulos, and Theodoros Tryfon, President of the Hellenic Association of Pharmaceutical Industry.
A Flagship Project Under Greece 2.0
Funded through the European Union’s NextGenerationEU programme as part of Greece’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan ‘Greece 2.0’, the new center marks a turning point for health-sector innovation—reinforcing Greece’s role as a regional hub for high-value pharmaceutical development.
State-of-the-Art Capabilities
Leveraging cutting-edge technologies, the center supports the development and production of multiple pharmaceutical dosage forms. It is already advancing over 20 generic formulations and novel drug delivery systems. The facility also participates actively in national and international research initiatives—including the EU-funded GENz-trials project, which pioneers AI-driven frameworks for clinical trial implementation.
Bioequivalence studies are conducted on-site, ensuring all products meet the highest international standards for quality and safety.
Talent, Collaboration, and Local Impact
The center is already staffed by 20 highly specialized scientists and lays the groundwork for developing innovative pharmaceutical solutions, attracting scientific talent, and deepening Greece’s involvement in global research partnerships.
Vianex has operated in Patras since 1999 through its Factory D in the same industrial zone—long serving as a key pillar of local employment and economic development. Factory D ranks among Europe’s most modern and specialized facilities for cephalosporin-based product manufacturing.
With this new R&D center, Vianex further solidifies its presence in Western Greece, creating an integrated ecosystem that unites production, research, and innovation.
Leadership Vision
In his opening address, Dimitris Giannakopoulos, Chairman and CEO of the Vianex Group, stated: “This investment reflects our enduring commitment to Greece—to science, to people, and to building world-class pharmaceutical solutions with global reach.”
