And tomorrow Monday (26.08.2024) will be a very high risk in several parts of the country. Specifically, a very high risk of fire (risk class 4) is foreseen tomorrow in the region of Attica and in areas of Central Greece, Peloponnese, Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, according to the Fire Risk Forecast Map issued by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection . The areas located in the ‘Orange Alarm’ are: -East Macedonia & Thrace Region (Evros including Samothrakis Island, Rhodope PI, Xanthi, PE Thassos) – Region of Attica – Region of Central Greece (EP Boeotia, PE Evvoia) – Region of Peloponnese (PE Corinthia, PI Argolida). The General Secretariat of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection has informed the competent service departments involved, as well as the Regions and municipalities of the above areas, to be in increased political protection readiness in order to address immediately any incidents of fires. At the same time, the GGP recommends that citizens be particularly careful and avoid actions in the countryside that can cause a fire from negligence, such as burning dry grass and branches or cleaning residues, using spark-induced machinery such as saws, welding devices, using outdoor grills, smoking bees, throwing lit cigarettes, etc. It is also recalled that during the anti-pyrotic period the burning of fields is prohibited. Therefore, the 2nd phase of the P.S. operational readiness remains in place and air surveillance patrols will be carried out, as well as patrols by firemen, police and military forces. At the same time, for the above areas, the Civil Protection Action Plan to address forest fires risks remains in place, according to which, inter alia, provision is made for the application of the measure of the preventive ban on the movement of vehicles and the stay of travellers in national parks, forests and “sensitive” areas. At the same time the Fire Department appeals to the citizens: -Be especially careful and avoid any activity that could cause a fire. – Follow the information on forest fire prevention available on the website and on the official accounts of the Fire Corps, Facebook and Twitter. – Should they notice a fire, alert the Fire Department immediately to the 911 call number. Finally, the Fire Department calls on all citizens to be particularly careful and in the event of a fire, for their own safety, to follow closely the instructions of the competent authorities.
