Greece faces a dangerous day tomorrow, Wednesday, July 2nd, with the National Fire Protection Authority issuing a Level 4 (very high) fire risk alert for several regions. According to the Fire Danger Forecast Map released by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection under the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, areas including Attica, Crete, Evia, parts of the Peloponnese, and islands in the Northern Aegean are at extreme risk of wildfires.

The affected regions include:
– Attica Region (including Kythira Island)
– Central Greece Region (Evia)
– Peloponnese Region (Corinthia, Argolis, Laconia)
– Northern Aegean Region (Lesbos, Chios, Samos, Ikaria)
– Crete Region

The General Secretariat has alerted relevant authorities, regional administrations, and municipalities to maintain heightened readiness to respond swiftly to any fire incidents. Citizens are urged to be cautious and avoid outdoor activities that could spark fires, such as burning dry grass or branches, using spark-inducing machinery, outdoor barbecues, smoking near flammable materials, and more.

The second stage of operational readiness is now active, involving aerial surveillance, patrols by firefighting, police, and military units, and partial mobilization of firefighting personnel. Additionally, preventive traffic bans and restrictions on tourist access to national parks, forests, and vulnerable zones will be enforced.

The Hellenic Fire Service urges the public to:
1. Avoid any outdoor actions that may cause wildfires.
2. Stay informed via official channels: Fire Service website, Facebook, and Twitter.
3. Immediately report any signs of fire by calling emergency number 199.
