The city of Venice has debunked ‘false information’ circulating about the upcoming wedding of American billionaire Jeff Bezos, assuring that the nuptials will be within ‘reasonable limits,’ with only 200 guests. Bezos and his partner, journalist Lauren Sanchez, are set to marry in Venice at the end of June, a decade after the city hosted the wedding of Hollywood star George Clooney and human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin. An Italian newspaper had recently claimed that Bezos was planning a three-day celebration, ‘with 250 guests each night,’ possibly including U.S. President Donald Trump. The rumors suggested the couple had already booked five hotels and numerous water taxis, while also reserving Bezos’ yacht for public display. Today, the city council dismissed these rumors, emphasizing that Bezos does not intend to take over entire neighborhoods of the city. ‘Many assumptions and false reports about Jeff Bezos’ wedding are baseless. Only 200 people will be invited. It will therefore be easy for Venice to host such an event without disrupting the life of the city, its residents, and visitors,’ the statement noted. The council reminded that Venice frequently hosts international events much larger than a wedding, from summits to the famous Mostra film festival. Mayor Luigi Brugnaro welcomed the couple’s decision to wed in his city, stating in Corriere della Sera that the gains for Venice would amount to millions of dollars.
