Priamos Xydakis observed in the 17-year-old, then, son of the butcher, George Kokologiannis. The 34-year-old father of three minor children quarreled with the young man, for the latter allegedly shot in the air during a party held at Prophet Elijah. This event allegedly sparked the butcher’s anger, who – according to the primary court – always called Xydakis, telling him to go through his shop. When the 34-year-old arrived at the butcher shop, he met both George Kokologianni and the minor – then – his son. The climate between the two men was reportedly tense. According to the reasoning of the ruling of the Mixed Orcotian Court of Lassithi, the butcher came out of his shop and headed to his car, in order to take the shotgun he had inside. Xydakis reportedly then launched a crowbar against the butcher, but without hitting him. The young man then allegedly threatened with a 34-year-old pistol, with the latter trying to grab the gun from the 17-year-old. As stated in the reasoning of the preliminary ruling, a struggle ensued, resulting in the finger of one of the two pulling the trigger and the 57-year-old being injured in the legs and 17-year-old in the neck. Finally, the butcher, who had meanwhile taken the shotgun from his vehicle, shot Xydakis with it, who a few seconds later died. Nearby the butcher shop is a cafe, where people of the village sat at the time. Among these were the 64-year-old Manolis Stavroulakis, who enjoyed the festive evening with his company. Stavros was fatally injured by fragments. Protodika, the 56-year-old butcher had been sentenced to life for the murder of Xydakis and was found not guilty of the murder of Stavros. The perpetrator’s brother, a former player of ANT1’s “Mission” reality show, Stefanos Kokologiannis, had been sentenced to 14 years in prison for attempted murder against Priamos Xydakis’ father, for illegal arms and weapons. In December 2017, by decision of the Mixed Court of East Crete, the sentence of George Kokologiannis was reduced to 23 years in prison. Also, the court imposed a financial guarantee of 3,000 euros. For the second defendant, his brother, Stefanos Kokologiannis, the court decided to acquit his acquittal for the attempted murder against his father Giannis Xydakis.
