The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Island Policy will update, in the coming days, the control protocols governing the obligations of port management entities and maritime professionals. This was announced by Minister of Maritime Affairs and Island Policy Vassilis Kikilias from the ministry’s facilities on Monday (23.06.2025). Speaking at the 1st Conference of the Greek Union of Towage – Marine Salvage – Anti-Pollution Shipowners, held at the Central Library of Piraeus, Minister Kikilias emphasized the need to continuously invest in new technology to enhance port and sea safety. The minister highlighted the crucial role of maritime transport globally, especially in the current critical phase of global shipping amidst ongoing conflicts. He underscored the pivotal role of tugboats both inside and outside ports in ensuring maritime safety. Kikilias reiterated that safety remains a top priority, stating that no compromises will be made, even amid economic challenges. He concluded by encouraging continuous efforts to elevate safety standards, emphasizing collaboration between the state and private sector to ensure an organized approach towards maritime security.
