Yanis Varoufakis once again addressed journalist Sophia Toutouris, reiterating that her behavior deeply troubled him. Speaking during the ANT1 morning show ‘To Proino’ at Eleftherios Venizelos Airport, Varoufakis stated that journalists should be upset by their colleague’s conduct. He emphasized, ‘The good thing about YouTube is that you can watch and form your own opinion. The lady discredits your profession. It’s very simple. I’m not angry at all. I feel sorry when young people do such things, disgracing a meaningful field.’ He added that he prefers open dialogue without predetermined questions, stating everyone is responsible for their actions. During the 13th ‘Regional Growth Conference’ in Patra on May 14, 2025, Varoufakis told Toutouris directly, ‘you are ridiculous, madam.’ In response, Toutouris claimed she was caught in an unexpected public debate and clarified that she was coordinating a comprehensive interview without a fixed thematic framework. She criticized Varoufakis for making repeated offensive remarks targeting both her professional and personal integrity. Additionally, she noted receiving insults from the audience, which intensified the atmosphere. These comments sparked a wave of threats and sexist attacks online, Toutouris highlighted. She insisted her stance was guided by principles developed over her 18-year career in media, unrelated to political motives.
