The New York fans’ association honored Olympiacos president Vangelis Marinakis for winning the Conference League and UEFA Youth League during a gala celebrating the club’s centenary! The event took place at Melrose Ballroom where George Tsambas, the association’s president, presented Marinakis with commemorative plaques. ‘100 years and it’s still not enough for our team,’ Marinakis said. ‘I am particularly happy to be here tonight. This past year was one of the most significant in our club’s history. We won two European titles. The first team in Europe to achieve two European trophies in the same period.’ Marinakis also highlighted overcoming challenges, making necessary changes, and ultimately succeeding. He emphasized the importance of winning the UEFA Youth League, showcasing Greek talent on an international stage. Despite losing in the Intercontinental final against Brazilian giants at Maracanã, Olympiacos played admirably and deserved victory. Marinakis noted that Olympiacos is among the few European clubs with four academy players in its starting lineup. The trophy will tour Greece and cities abroad with large Greek populations, including Chicago. Over 2 million people celebrated the trophy in Greece, proving pride transcends club loyalty. Olympiacos aims to continue conquering peaks across various sports sections. Various events are planned in New York, including photo opportunities with the trophies and a Times Square visit. On Sunday, the trophies will participate in a parade honoring Greek Independence Day on Fifth Avenue, with Marinakis as one of the Grand Marshals.
