Hours after a devastating arson attack on their home in Thessaloniki, Panagiotis Nestoras — husband of Vagia Nestora — paid an emotional farewell to his wife of 47 years. In a deeply personal social media post, he shared a photo of the couple and described Vagia as a life hero, beloved by all, and a selfless woman who embodied devotion and kindness.
A Tragic Loss
Vagia Nestora, mother of New Democracy MP Aphrodite Nestora, was rushed to a Thessaloniki hospital with severe burns following the fire. She succumbed to her injuries just hours later. Her husband and daughter Aphrodite remain hospitalized, still struggling to process the loss of the woman who had been at the center of their family for nearly five decades.
‘She Went to Find Our Daughter Nikoleta’
In his tribute, Panagiotis wrote: ‘Today, after the senseless, cowardly, and anarchic attack, I bid farewell to my wife Vagia — to the realm of angels. A heroine of life, cherished by everyone, a person of boundless generosity… She was a mother, a wife for 47 years — sharing every joy and sorrow with me.’
He added: ‘She went to find our daughter Nikoleta — the one she adored so deeply — to tell her the latest news about her son. What a wonderful child she is, and how much she loved you. I will remember you always, my sweet wife. In every action I take, I’ll hear your voice guiding me. Aphrodite and I are strong. We are proud of you. Together, we will carry on — guided by our own stars watching over us. I love you.’
