Hours after an arson attack on their home in Thessaloniki, Panagiotis Nestoras — husband of Vagia Nestora — paid a deeply emotional farewell to his wife of 47 years. In a heartfelt social media post, he shared a photo of the two together, describing her as a ‘heroine, beloved by all, and a person of selfless giving.’
A Tragic Loss
Vagia Nestora, mother of New Democracy MP Aphrodite Nestora, was rushed to a Thessaloniki hospital with severe burns following the fire. Despite intensive medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries just hours later.
Her husband and daughter Aphrodite remain hospitalized with burns and respiratory complications. Neither has yet fully grasped the reality that Vagia is no longer with them.
A Message of Love and Resilience
In his post, Panagiotis Nestoras condemned the attack as a ‘murderous blow by reckless, anarchist, and cowardly individuals.’ He remembered Vagia not only as a devoted wife and mother but also as a woman who carried profound love for her late daughter Nikoleta — who died at age 37 after battling cancer. He wrote that Vagia had ‘gone to meet Nikoleta in the land of angels,’ and that she would always be present in his every action and decision.
He concluded with a vow of enduring memory and strength: ‘I and our daughter Aphrodite are strong, proud of you, and will move forward united — guided by our own stars watching over us. I love you.’
