Today, the funeral of Vagia Nestora is taking place in Kozani amid profound grief. Nestora, a resident of Thessaloniki, died following an arson attack on the home she shared with her family.
Her coffin arrived at the Church of Agios Nikolaos in Kozani around 10:30 a.m., with the funeral service scheduled to begin at noon.
Her daughter, Aphrodite, is expected to attend the ceremony despite being hospitalized in Thessaloniki with severe burns. Although doctors have advised against discharge due to serious leg injuries that prevent her from standing, Aphrodite has insisted on signing her release and traveling to Kozani to bid farewell to her mother. She will be transported by ambulance for the service.
Among those expected to attend are Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and PASOK-KINAL leader Nikos Androulakis, alongside numerous New Democracy party officials.
From early morning, mourners have gathered at the church to pay their final respects. The church courtyard has already filled with floral tributes honoring Vagia Nestora’s memory — including wreaths sent by the President of the Hellenic Republic and the Thessaloniki Bar Association.
