An Indiana woman has been sentenced to six years in prison for killing her 10-year-old adopted son by suffocating him under her body as a form of punishment. Jennifer Lee Wilson admitted guilt for the murder of Dakota Levi Stevens in October 2024, confessing that she pinned the child to the floor with her weight—approximately 154 pounds—for around five minutes, leading to his death by asphyxiation. The boy had previously fled from home to escape abuse, seeking refuge with a neighbor who wanted to adopt him due to repeated beatings by his parents. On the fateful day, after being brought back by Wilson, the boy was crushed under her weight. During the trial, Wilson claimed she asked the unresponsive child if he was mocking her before noticing his swollen eyelids and performing CPR. Emergency services were called, but Dakota passed away two days later at a local hospital. The cause of death was confirmed as asphyxiation.
