White House: Contacts with Taliban needed to free civilians after August 31

The United States will have contacts with the Taliban to ensure the safe release of people from Afghanistan after the August 31st deadline for troops to leave, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said.

Psaki said President Biden had instructed Foreign Minister Anthony Blinken to hold talks with international partners to determine what the way forward in Afghanistan would look like.
