US: Trump Administration Appeals to Supreme Court Over Tariffs

in

The administration is exploring alternative ways to implement tariffs if appeals against the judicial block fail, according to Bloomberg. White House officials stated today that Trump will pursue many of the same collections through other legal avenues should the appeals fail. Specifically, the Trump administration will appeal to the US Supreme Court tomorrow (May 29, 2025) if a federal appellate court does not overturn the initial decision. Government officials made it clear they intend to reinstate the tariffs one way or another, even as the government appeals the ruling by the Court of International Trade, which accuses the president of misusing the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) for imposing sweeping global tariffs. “We have a very strong case with IEEPA, but the court is essentially telling us that if we lose this, we’ll just do something else,” White House trade advisor Peter Navarro told Bloomberg today (May 29, 2025), adding, “So, nothing has really changed. I want to tell the world: ‘You’re fooling yourselves. We’ll hunt you down. Agree and let’s fix it.’”
