A man was killed in a shooting incident in Biddeford, Maine, involving agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), according to multiple news reports. The deadly event occurred just days after another ICE agent fatally shot a man during a traffic stop in Houston, Texas.
Details Emerge from Local Officials
Ryan Fecteau, Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives, posted on Facebook that the shooting took place early this morning in Biddeford. ‘Today this morning there were shootings in Biddeford. One person was killed. ICE was involved. The state police and Department of Public Safety are now on scene to gather details and are also awaiting an investigation from the FBI,’ he wrote, as cited by media outlets.
Response and Investigation Underway
Local authorities closed a road near the scene, and FBI agents joined local law enforcement at the site. Biddeford — a city of over 21,000 residents located about 15 miles south of Portland and 90 miles north of Boston — remains under active investigation.
Officials from ICE and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) were not immediately available for comment. The Biddeford Police Department declined to issue a statement, referring inquiries to ICE. Biddeford’s mayor did not respond promptly to a Reuters request for comment.
Recent ICE Shooting in Texas Sparks National Reaction
Last week, an ICE agent shot and killed Lorenzo Salgado Araujo during a traffic stop in Houston. According to an official ICE statement, Araujo — identified as a Mexican national residing unlawfully in the U.S. — attempted to flee arrest during an ICE operation.
The DHS confirmed Araujo had previously been ordered removed from the country. The Houston incident has since triggered protests across several cities, amid growing scrutiny of federal immigration enforcement tactics.
This latest shooting in Maine occurs amid an intensifying nationwide crackdown on immigrants — raising fresh concerns about use of force and accountability within federal enforcement agencies.
