US-Afghanistan: Majority of citizens ‘disappointed’ after troop withdrawal

In the face of images of despair coming from Kabul after the Taliban victory, American support for the withdrawal of their troops from Afghanistan has collapsed.

Half of those polled disapprove of the way President Joe Biden resigned, according to a poll released today.

Only 49% of the 1.999 voters polled by Politico and Morning Consult between August 13 and 16 backed the US president’s decision to leave the country, compared with 69% in April.

Joe Biden was counting on public support for a withdrawal that would end the longest-running US war since the September 11, 2001, attacks.

But 51% of those polled criticized the way Joe Biden handled the resignation. The poll was conducted among voters across the political spectrum and had a margin of error of +/- 2%.
