Only in this way can be interpreted article in the German magazine Spiegel, according to which the european agency Frontex is preparing for the possibility of full cancellation of the agreement between the eu.E. and Turkey. And what does it do? Instead to enhance services for asylum to the Greek islands to receive refugees arriving from Turkey, strengthens controls at the border of Greece with Albania and FYROM. Like, that is, the borders of E.E. to begin there.
In accordance with information published by the online version of the Spiegel, Frontex strengthens with additional employees in Greece. In response from Thessaloniki, the magazine states: “Frontex is planning in January and February mission 60 officials at the border Greece-MACEDONIA. It would be the first time that forces of the european office will be located in the region with this command. Greek experts consider that this move is the EU’s response to the growing concern for possible cancellation of refugee agreement from the Anchor and the influx of tens of thousands of refugees in the so-called Balkan Route”.
According to Spiegel Online have been provided for two missions. The first under the name “Operation Focal Point 2017” is focused on passport controls at border posts. The second, called “Flexible Operational Activities 2017†provides intensive patrols on the border to prevent the illegal transit migrants and refugees. The mission provides for questions to the detainees about their origin, the path followed or the networks of traffickers.
High-ranking representatives of Frontex and the Greek police inspected last week the area. The officials of the european office will be located on the ground with two groups, while a business centre will be located in Kilkis and the other in the Euzonoi.
Officially, Frontex did not wish, however, to confirm the mission. Citing an internal document of the police, the German magazine notes that powers of Frontex are likely to extend their mission and on the border with Albania, where until today, recorded just immigrants.
“In addition to the scenario of the cancellation of refugee agreement shall be examined, and that the “restriction” of border control from the Turkish side. It goes without saying that the news about more lax controls will be communicated quickly.
