Ukraine: The Terrifying New Weapon Changing the War – ‘If It Finds You, These May Be Your Last Hours’

in

After three years of conflict, weapons are evolving with technology playing a pivotal role in warfare and creating new threats. One such threat comes from optical fiber drones that have become a significant part of the war in Ukraine, requiring soldiers to adapt quickly. According to BBC reports, this new weapon uses optical fibers, featuring a reel with tens of kilometers of cable attached to the bottom of unmanned aircraft, connecting it to the operator. The video and control signals are transmitted via the cable instead of radio frequencies, making it immune to electronic jamming devices. This protection has shifted the status quo, prompting Ukraine to ramp up production. Russian forces began deploying these drones before Ukraine, allowing them to enter buildings and search for targets indoors. However, they are slower than traditional drones and their cables can get tangled in trees. Despite these drawbacks, Russia’s extensive use of these drones makes troop movements more perilous. Soldiers now remain in their positions longer due to the increased threat, with some staying for as long as 120 days. Tactics have also changed; Russian infantry now sends smaller groups or individuals on motorcycles and ATVs, making the front lines less clearly defined. As the war enters its fourth summer, Ukraine needs steady supplies of weapons and ammunition to continue fighting against a much larger Russian army. Many Ukrainian soldiers joined after the war began, receiving minimal training before entering combat.
