More than seven people were killed and over 20 injured today (May 1, 2025) in a drone attack by Ukraine on the city of Oleksandrivka, which is under Russian occupation in the southern Kherson region. The Russian-appointed governor of Kherson emphasized that Ukraine launched a massive drone strike on the central market of Oleksandrivka at 9:30 p.m., resulting in several fatalities and injuries. According to preliminary data, there are at least seven dead and more than 20 wounded, he added. In a separate Telegram message, he accused the Ukrainian army of launching new drones after the first wave of the attack to ‘finish off the survivors.’ He also posted a video allegedly from the attack site, showing smoke rising from small buildings, though it has not been independently verified for authenticity. The city of Oleksandrivka, which had about 20,000 residents before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, is located on the eastern bank of the Dnieper River, in an area currently under Russian control. It lies just a few kilometers east of Kherson, the regional capital, which Moscow had occupied before Ukraine recaptured it in the fall of 2022.
