A fresh wave of explosions rocked Kyiv shortly after midnight today (14 July 2026), following an air defense alert warning of incoming Russian ballistic missiles. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed the attack via Telegram, stating: ‘Anti-aircraft defense systems are operating in the capital. The enemy [Russia] is striking Kyiv with ballistic missiles.’
Fires broke out in three locations in the Holosiivskyi district—Kyiv’s southern area—according to Klitschko and Kyiv Military Administration Head Timur Tkachenko. No casualties were reported from the Kyiv incident.
Air raid sirens sounded across the Ukrainian capital before at least six explosions were heard. The alert ended approximately 50 minutes later.
Meanwhile, in the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia, 11 people were wounded in Russian drone strikes, according to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service. Another six were injured just outside Kharkiv—the country’s second-largest city, located in the northeast—as reported by Oleh Synyehubov, head of the Kharkiv Oblast Military Administration.
The latest Russian assault comes hours after leaders of the so-called ‘Coalition of the Willing’—a group of Ukraine’s international allies—met in Paris on 13 July to coordinate increased military aid and intensify diplomatic pressure on Moscow. Nine European countries announced plans to establish a fully defensive alliance aimed at developing continental anti-ballistic missile capabilities.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy hailed the initiative as a ‘historic day for all of us’, referring to the newly launched Integrated Anti-Ballistic Defense Coalition, which includes Ukraine and its nine European partners. The coalition seeks to build a shared European missile shield—but Zelenskyy continues urging allies to supply more advanced air defense systems, especially to counter increasingly frequent and hard-to-intercept ballistic and hypersonic missiles.
Since June, Kyiv has faced repeated missile attacks, with a marked rise in ballistic missile use. A particularly devastating strike on the night of 1–2 July killed 30 people, according to Ukrainian authorities—described as the deadliest single attack on the capital in recent months.
