Four people were killed and ten others injured in overnight Russian attacks across multiple regions of Ukraine on July 3, 2026, according to officials reporting via Telegram — even as the death toll from yesterday’s devastating strikes on Kyiv rose to 30.
Casualties Across Regions
In Sumy Oblast, a Russian drone strike hit a residential building, killing two women, an elderly man, and a girl under two years old, while three more people were wounded, said Oleh Khryhorov, head of Ukraine’s military administration for the region.
In Kryvyi Rih — the central Ukrainian city and birthplace of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy — seven people were injured after a Russian missile struck a densely populated area, according to Oleksandr Vilkuil, head of the city’s defense council.
Kyiv Declares Day of Mourning
Kyiv declared Friday a citywide day of mourning following what officials described as the deadliest single attack on the capital since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. Emergency services confirmed that three additional bodies were recovered from the rubble today, raising the confirmed death toll to 30. Earlier, Kyiv’s military administrator Timur Tkachenko had reported 27 dead and 91 injured.
Entire residential blocks collapsed. An ambulance depot was struck, and debris reportedly fell onto a building housing several diplomats, according to Anitta Hippel, spokesperson for the European Union. One of the Ukrainian Red Cross’s main warehouses — stocked with humanitarian aid — was also destroyed.
Leaders Respond
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko called the assault “the most massive” against the capital since 2022 and announced the day of mourning. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated Russia would continue intensifying pressure on the Kyiv government to achieve its stated goals.
President Zelenskyy, who visited the strike sites, condemned the attacks as deliberate strikes on civilian infrastructure aimed solely at forcing Ukraine to abandon its sovereignty. He pledged Ukraine would respond and urged international allies to supply more advanced air defense systems — a request he said he hopes will be addressed at the ongoing NATO summit.
Kyiv woke Friday morning once again under drones and missiles — a grim reminder that civilians continue to bear the brunt of a war with no end in sight.
