On March 13, 2025, Ukraine and Finland signed a defense agreement against the backdrop of Russian aggression and Ukraine’s pressing needs for both economic and military assistance. The bilateral agreement aims to strengthen their defense cooperation, including equipment, intelligence sharing, and ammunition production. Finland’s Ministry of Defense announced a new military aid package worth approximately €200 million, which will include artillery ammunition to assist Ukraine in its war with Russia. Meanwhile, Sweden’s Minister for International Development Cooperation, Benjamin Dousa, stated that Sweden will provide at least 1.4 billion Swedish kronor (about $137.7 million USD) to support Ukraine’s reconstruction and development, addressing urgent humanitarian needs. This package, described as Sweden’s largest non-military aid program ever by Dousa, includes infrastructure rebuilding, mine clearance, and health training. Dousa emphasized during a press conference that supporting Ukraine is about solidarity and Sweden’s security, adding that recent weeks have shown it can no longer take international support for Ukraine as a given.
