Ukraine: 7 Killed in Russian Missile Strikes on Kyiv and Other Cities – Teen Among Victims

Seven people were killed in new Russian missile attacks on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities late Tuesday, July 7, just hours before Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was set to meet U.S. President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara.

Ballistic missile strikes and multiple explosions rocked Kyiv overnight, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP) journalists on the ground. One initial explosion was heard before the city’s air raid siren activated. Ukraine’s emergency services confirmed that “unfortunately, one person was killed” in the nighttime Russian attack on the capital.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported fires at storage facilities and a residential building—described as a ‘non-residential structure’—burning in two neighborhoods of the city.

The Ukrainian Air Force said Russia launched five ballistic missiles, two cruise missiles, and 169 attack drones and other aerial systems against Ukraine. Ukrainian air defenses intercepted 139 drones but failed to intercept any of the ballistic or cruise missiles.

President Zelenskyy, currently in Ankara for the NATO summit, urgently appealed to allies to supply more advanced air defense systems. Ukraine is facing a critical shortage of munitions needed to intercept Russian ballistic missiles—a shortfall increasingly evident amid a surge in missile strikes since early July.

In Kyiv alone, at least 18 people were killed yesterday—the deadliest single day in the capital this month—and another 30 died in missile attacks over the past week, marking one of the largest such barrages on the Ukrainian capital to date.

Casualties Across Ukraine

In southern Mykolaiv Oblast, a 38-year-old woman and her 15-year-old daughter were killed in missile strikes, according to regional Governor Vitaliy Kim, who also reported two injured.

In northeastern Kharkiv, two people were killed when a missile struck a residential building, per Mayor Ihor Terekhov. More than ten others were wounded.

In southern Kherson Oblast, near the front line, two people died in drone attacks targeting a bus and a car, local authorities said. Additional injuries were reported elsewhere: four in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast (east), and three in Zaporizhzhia Oblast (south).

In Russia, one person was killed in Saratov Oblast during an attack by Ukrainian drones, according to regional Governor Roman Busargin.

Meanwhile, Ukraine has intensified strikes against Russia’s so-called ‘shadow fleet’—aging tankers used to export Russian oil and generate vital revenue for Moscow’s strained economy.
