Ukraine: 11 Dead in Deadly Russian Missile Attack on Dnipropetrovsk

in

As Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged Western allies within NATO to continue their military support for Ukraine, the civilian death toll from a missile attack by Russia on the Dnipro region continued to rise. Specifically, Russia launched two salvos of ballistic missiles against Dnipro, the capital of the southeastern Ukrainian province, resulting in at least 11 deaths according to Governor Sergei Lisak. The shockwave from the Russian attacks shattered windows of a passenger train, injuring passengers, and caused damage to schools and a hospital. Currently, over 160 people have been reported injured, with rubble still being cleared. Among the injured are 18 children, and two additional fatalities were recorded in the city of Samara, approximately 10 kilometers from Dnipro. This rare daytime attack occurred as Zelenskyy pressured NATO members during the NATO Summit in The Hague to increase investments in Ukraine’s developing defense sector and disrupt foreign supplies used by Russia for weapon production. ‘This is not a battle where it’s hard to choose sides,’ Zelenskyy wrote. ‘Standing with Ukraine means defending life.’ Russia has escalated aerial attacks on Ukraine in recent weeks, particularly in the capital Kyiv, where 28 people died on June 17 in the deadliest such attack this year. Another 10 people were killed in aerial strikes in Kyiv and its surrounding area yesterday.
