A shocking video has emerged of a fatal traffic incident in Sunderland, northeast England, where an 86-year-old woman was struck and killed by a teenager riding a high-powered electric bike.

Tragic collision at pedestrian crossing

The incident occurred as Gloria Stevenson — a mother of four and grandmother of 13 — attempted to cross a marked pedestrian crossing. She was hit by 19-year-old Billy Stokoe, who was riding a Sur-Ron Light Bee X e-bike, valued at around £4,000. According to reports from the Daily Mail, Stokoe was under the influence of cannabis at the time and had no valid licence or insurance.

Security footage shows aftermath

Surveillance cameras captured the moment of impact, showing Stevenson being thrown to the ground and Stokoe himself being ejected from the bike. The footage then shows him removing his balaclava, approaching the fallen woman, and shortly afterward remounting the e-bike and fleeing the scene.

Conviction and sentencing

On Friday, 15 May 2026, Newcastle Crown Court sentenced Stokoe after he pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving. He admitted to speeding, failing to stop at the pedestrian crossing, using cannabis, and texting while riding. He will serve up to half of his sentence before becoming eligible to apply for parole and has been banned from driving for five years following his release.
