UK MP Proposes Permanent Loan of Parthenon Marbles to Greece

in

Conservative MP Alberto Costa, the chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Greece, proposed a permanent loan of the Parthenon Marbles to Greece as a potential solution to the long-standing issue. According to his proposal, the marbles could be displayed at the Acropolis Museum under a permanent ‘loan’ arrangement. Additionally, Mr. Costa suggested alternative forms of cultural exchange, such as free entry for British visitors to the Acropolis Museum and periodic exhibitions of Greek antiquities in UK museums. However, the UK Minister for Cultural Affairs swiftly responded that current legislation does not allow for such a permanent loan of the marbles.
