A harrowing case unfolding in the UK has shocked the public after a court heard that a 25-year-old mother, Alexandra Walker, and her 21-year-old boyfriend, Harrison Simpson, sexually assaulted and murdered her two-year-old daughter, Isabelle Rose Welsh. The toddler suffered fractures in 21 bones during what prosecutors described as a sustained ‘campaign of violence’ — culminating in a fatal head injury.

Brutal Abuse and Fatal Head Trauma

According to evidence presented on 23 June 2026, Isabelle endured weeks of physical and sexual abuse before her death in September last year. Emergency services responded to a call about an unwell child at a home in Thornaby on Saturday, 13 September. Paramedics arrived within a minute and found Isabelle lying supine on the stairs — covered in bruises and without a pulse.

Prosecutor Richard Wright KC told the court: ‘Isabelle’s death was not due to natural causes. She died because, shortly before her final collapse, someone inflicted a serious head injury upon her. Her skull was fractured, her brain injured, and her heart stopped as a direct result of this assault.’

He added that the child had been ‘violently shaken’, with her head striking a hard, rigid surface — such as a wall or floor — and stressed: ‘This was not an accident. It was deliberate harm inflicted on a vulnerable child. It was murder.’

Prior Medical Visits Ignored Warning Signs

Eleven days before her death, Walker took Isabelle to her GP and then to hospital, reporting pain in the toddler’s leg. She reportedly waited two weeks before seeking medical help. Doctors confirmed a leg fracture, but despite concerns raised by some healthcare staff, Isabelle was discharged and returned to her mother’s care — based on the accepted explanation of an accidental injury.

Extensive Injuries Revealed Post-Mortem

A post-mortem examination revealed multiple fractures across 21 bones — including in her arms, legs, and spine — along with bruising and injuries consistent with sexual abuse. Walker and Simpson now face charges of murder, causing or allowing a child’s death, sexual assault of a child under 13, and child cruelty.

The couple had known each other for less than four months at the time of Isabelle’s death. Simpson began spending increasing amounts of time at Walker’s home — alongside her young daughter — soon after they met.
