A shocking video has emerged of a 50-year-old man, Richard Jones, who was sentenced yesterday (03.03.2025) to at least 20 years in prison for the brutal murder of his son’s girlfriend, 30-year-old Sophie Evans. The chilling footage, captured by the doorbell camera of the victim’s home in Llanelli, UK, shows Jones leaving the house shortly after committing the heinous crime, casually lighting a cigarette as he walks away.
According to court testimony, Sophie Evans was found strangled with a scarf inside a cupboard in her home in July 2024. The Daily Mail released the disturbing video showing Jones arriving and departing from the scene. In the recording, he is seen knocking on the front door before turning around to check the street moments before carrying out the horrific act.
During his defense, Jones claimed he committed the murder because he believed the couple had been defrauding him financially. On the day of the attack, Sophie had returned home after dropping off her two children at school. After killing her, Jones reportedly continued with his daily routine, visiting the bank and going shopping. He later contacted his ex-partner, telling her that he had ‘resolved’ the issue with Evans by ‘erasing’ her.
Jamie Davies, Sophie’s partner and Jones’s son, testified that his life has never been the same since his father murdered his girlfriend. “Sophie was the most beautiful and loving person I could ever ask for,” Davies said. “What Richard did is truly unforgivable. He destroyed my future. Sophie and I trusted Richard. I never imagined for a second that he was capable of harming Sophie—let alone killing her.” Davies added, “The thought of having to live my life without Sophie causes immense pain and despair.”
