British media outlets report the arrest of former UK Labour Minister Dan Norris, who is suspected of rape and child sex offenses. Norris, who defeated Jacob Rees-Mogg in last year’s general elections to become the Member of Parliament for North East Somerset, was taken into custody after police raided his home in his electoral district last Friday (April 4, 2025). According to Sky News, law enforcement seized evidence from Norris’s residence. The ex-teacher and child protection officer has been placed on leave by the party pending further investigation. A representative from the Avon and Somerset Police stated that they received a report from another police force in December 2024 regarding alleged sexual crimes against a minor. Most of the alleged offenses reportedly occurred in the 2000s, but an alleged rape case from the 2020s is also under investigation. The ongoing probe is still in its early stages. Authorities assure the victim is receiving necessary support and specialized assistance. Norris has been released on restrictive terms as investigations continue.
