UK Café Renames ‘Americano’ to ‘Ukraino’ in Support of Ukraine

A café in the UK has changed the name of its ‘Americano’ coffee to ‘Ukraino’ in support of Ukraine. The owner, Helen Gregorri of Seahorse Coffee Box located in the coastal town of Sizewell Caravan, Eastern England, explained that this renaming was a protest against the intimidation shown by former U.S. President Donald Trump towards Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a meeting at the Oval Office. In a video posted on social media, she replaced the word ‘Americano’ with ‘Ukraino’ on her menu. She stated, ‘If you were outraged and upset by that ridiculous display of bullying in the Oval Office… No more Americano, from today we’ll call it Ukraino.’ Furthermore, she encouraged other businesses to follow her example and mentioned that customers have been supportive of the move. While acknowledging that the gesture may not make a significant difference, Gregorri emphasized raising awareness in her small corner of the world. Interestingly, the term ‘Americano’ originated during World War II when American soldiers diluted strong Italian espresso to resemble the coffee they were accustomed to back home.
