UK: 19-Year-Old Prisoner Stomped Another Inmate to Death

A young con artist turned violent in a British prison, where he brutally murdered a fellow inmate just one day before the victim was due to be released. Nineteen-year-old Ashirie Smith killed 31-year-old Mahir Abdulrahman by stomping on his head and neck inside their cell at HMP Fosse Way in Leicestershire on August 20, 2024. Smith had been imprisoned for only four months after being sentenced to three years for weapons possession when he carried out the savage attack, which led to a life sentence. Ironically, Abdulrahman was set to leave the facility the following day. Surveillance footage captured Smith leaving the cell with a smirk before attacking Abdulrahman. The victim died instantly from a subarachnoid hemorrhage as confirmed during the autopsy. According to court documents, Abdulrahman had faced harassment from Smith and another prisoner, Tierry Robinson, retaliating by throwing a hot kettle at them, reports Daily Mail. This particular prison resembles a college dormitory, offering inmates personal computers functioning as TVs, ping pong tables, workshops, and cells with windows lacking bars, accommodating 1,715 prisoners in Scandinavian-style conditions.
