When they arrived at the frozen river dam, the father of two children felt that he had no choice but to save the animal from certain drowning. “It was like one of those moments that probably everyone has in their lives, such as that you will make a decision… either trying to get in the water and help it or the alternative…,” said MacRitchie. “So I felt I had to at least try to get this dog out of the river, as I have two dogs and I would hope that someone would do that for them if they were at this point.” CORVERSE The video shows MacRitchie – dressed in T-shirt, overalls and boots – approaching the river as the dog struggles to get out. MacRitchie passes carefully through the ice and though losing his balance, enters the river, while he is heard breathing heavily, as he crosses 20 meters of frozen water to reach the dog, who was on the other side of the frozen tributary of the Winoski River. His wife repeatedly shouts “come” to the dog and exclaims “Oh, my God”, as her husband takes the dog out of the water and they return together to the frozen bank. After saving the dog, MacRitchie called the owner of the dog, whose number was on the animal’s collar. source: cbsnews.com
