Another attack on her launched by and accused her of the massive withdrawal of US armed forces from Afghanistan, during a ceremony to pay tribute to 13 military fallen in Kabul, three years after their death. Republican former president Donald Trump and candidate for his re-election in November, has repeatedly succeeded against his successor Joe Biden on how the U.S. Army’s departure from Kabul was made in 2021, a black spot in the Democratic term. So he turns his verbal fire on Kamala Harris, who took the baton from the outgoing president and will be the Democratic candidate in the presidential election. In front of the national union of National Guard members in Detroit, 78-year-old former president and re-election of Republicans described this episode as “a humiliation” for the US, “caused by Kamala Harris (and) Joe Biden”. The Taliban, in power since then in Afghanistan, conquered Kabul, the capital, on 15 August 2021, as the US-backed government collapsed. A few days later, on August 26, amid chaos, a bomber-kamikaze attack cost the life to 13 American military and 170 Afghans at Kabul Airport, which was crowded and besieged by thousands of civilians who desperately wanted to leave the country. The Republican found on this issue an opportunity to attack his opponent: “By her confession, Kamala Harris played a key role in the disastrous departure (of the US armed forces) from Afghanistan,” the group conducting the candidate’s campaign in the run-up to the 5 November presidential election in a statement. The latter accused her of “smirking when a journalist asked her about American citizens who remain trapped in Afghanistan”. In April 2023, the White House released a report on the withdrawal of US armed forces, recognizing the failure of intelligence services, but accusing Mr. Trump of creating the conditions that led to the disorderly retreat. The Biden government argued that an agreement was concluded in February 2020 by the government of then-President Trump and the Taliban brought the new Biden government to an end, forcing it to set a departure date but without a comprehensive plan having been drawn up for its execution. Kamala Harris with her announcement paid tribute to the “13 devoted patriots” adding that she “prays” for their families. “My heart breaks for their pain and loss,” he added. The Republican former president has been repeatedly criticised for incendiary remarks and things he has allegedly said privately about veterans of the American army. At the beginning of the month, he considered that the top honorary distinction for citizens in the country is “much better” than the medals given to military people, because these latter are “in a very bad state” or “dead” when awarded.
