Applications for the were reduced last week to the lowest level since May, as the southeastern states continue to recover from the effects of the natural disasters. Initial applications for unemployment benefit in the US were reduced by 12,000 to 216,000 per week ending 26 October 2024. The average prediction in Bloomberg’s research among economists mentioned 230,000 applications. Permanent applications, a meter for the number of people receiving benefits, were reduced to 1.86 million last week, according to the data of the Ministry of Labour published today (31.10.2024). Data on applications this month was even more volatile than usual after Hurricanes Helen and Milton who destroyed parts of the South and shut down operations.
