Back in full the Georgia of the , after according to the Supreme Court of the state, the ban on the post-week 6 pregnancy of pregnant women came into effect. Georgia’s Supreme Court in the U.S. has since today restored the ban on abortions, while considering the state’s appeal to the lower court ruling, which blocked the application of the law, judging him as unconstitutional. With the Supreme Court’s decision the ban will enter into force from today at 17.00 (US Local Time). Against the law he had appealed a collection of colored women based in Atlanta, SisterSong Women of Color Reproduction Justice Collective. “Today, the Georgia Supreme Court took the side of anti-abuse extremists. Every minute that passes, with this damaging ban on abortions after the sixth week in force, women in Georgia suffer,” said the organization’s executive director, Monica Simpson, in a statement. On September 30, Judge Robert McBurney of Fulton County ruled that the law violated the right to privacy and freedom, which is guaranteed by the State Constitution. In his reasoning he said that women “are not the subject of common, collective ownership, the mood of which is decided by the majority” and considered that the State can ban abortion only after the fetus has become viable. The law prohibits almost all abortions after being identified “heart beat”, which usually occurs around the 6th week of pregnancy, when many women do not yet know they are pregnant. The law was approved in 2019 but was not implemented until the U.S. Supreme Court overturned in 2022 the retrial of the Roe v. Wade judgment, with which women’s right to abortion was guaranteed at a nationwide level. Today’s Supreme Court ruling is temporary but will continue to apply until the judges hear the arguments of both sides and make final decisions. Crowds gathered outside the Georgia Supreme Court to protest against the law being reinstated.
